Circle of Courage
The Circle of Courage will be a great teaching framework to implement in a classroom because it is Indigenous inspired, and it helps youth build a better self-image. The circle of courage involves Mastery, Independence, Belonging, and Generosity. These are qualities that everyone needs, and youth need it to be a better person. They need to master life, have independence to live the life, have a sense of belong to be a part of a community, and last but not least have generosity toward people to be a good person
7 Grandfather Teachings
The Seven Grandfather Teachings is Secwepemc where there are 7 animals that teach us something about life. As indigenous people we use oral traditional stories about animals that give us a teaching about life lessons. The bear, eagle, Beaver Salmon, Turtle, Swan, Coyote each represent something thing different and they can all teach kids. How to have courage, love, wisdom, etc. if you are teaching in Kamloops this will be an great to impalement in your class. Because it is Secwepemc inspired and each animals teach everyone, not just kids, who to be a better person.
Land-Based Learning
Land-based learning implication is a presentation I did for my EDSO (Education Social Studies). When I become a teacher, this is what I want my classroom to look like but also would like other teachers to implement it in their class. Times have changed and not everybody is outside a lot of the time with technology kids and people spend a lot of their times indoors. However, there are great benefits to being out on the land and learning on it. Teachers can use Indigenous knowledge to create the classroom however there are good lesson plans that don’t involve indigenous knowledge. For example, a garden is great it will teach the kids to be self-efficient and how to live off the land. This is a great connection to the mastery and independence in the circle of courage.
